CHATEDRAL
Built in local stone
between the end of the 15th century and the beginning
of the 16th in roman-gothic style, it is dominated by
a central rose window depicting, along its perimeter, God Father
and the twelve lesser apostles with at the centre the Blessing
God. Bishop Nicola is believed to have started its construction;
Arpone is prayerful, at the feet of the enthroned Virgin, carved
into the bezel of the central portal. The internal, in three
naves, amended in the 17th century, and also, at the
end of the 18th century; shows in the presbytery’s
lateral chapels wooden Baroque altars from the beginning of the
18th century; on the left one are the wooden
reliquary busts of Ostuni’s patron saints and protectors: Biagio,
Oronzo and Augustine; the right altar is frescoed with a 16th
century image of the Holy Virgin.
